The School of Fashion comprises six divisions and offers eight courses, some or all of which are offered in 97 colleges and 150 circuit centres scattered throughout New South Wales. The courses are designed primarily to teach the skills and prepare students for work in the clothing/fashion industry, as such they provide the students with a range of skills from home dressmaking through to industrial processes and commercial applications, including managerial and entrepreneurial techniques. This study was carried out to identify the reasons for enrolling in the fashion courses. Questionnaires were sent to head teachers of fashion in the colleges randomly selected. All of the questionnaires were administered in the week beginning 23 May 1988. The teachers were asked to survey the students during class time and to collect the completed questionnaires straight away. This report presents the findings.
